Why annot play Blu-rays from HP notebook to HDTV ?

I have an HP g60 laptop, with the Blu-ray disc drive. It plays fine through my laptop screen, but when I connect it to my tv with an HDMI cord, HP DVDPlay, says playing on an external monitor is not allowed. Assuming this is to help stop pirating movies. I've tried to look up my problem on the HP website, but all they tell me is how to change my external monitor to be. Is there a different program I can run, or a fix to dvdplay?
