How do I get a full screen with my notebook?

When I write an email with my notebook computer I do not have enough room to see all the text I am writing. On this version of mail there is no full screen menu under the tools icon to expand the screen. How do I expand the screen? Also, I have no soft keys to make it expand like I do with my desk top.
